OPEN VOTER REGISTRATION MOBILIZATION FORUM
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) held an Open Day on Saturday 4th March 2017, at the Kenyan Embassy in Bujumbura, to educate Kenyans in Burundi on the upcoming General Elections in Kenya on 8th August 2017. The IEBC team was led by Commissioner Dr. Roselyn Akombe who assured Kenyans that IEBC will deliver a good election. This will be the second time that Kenyans in Burundi will be voting. Also present were Madam Betty Sungura, Deputy Commission Secretary (Operations), IEBC and Salome Oyugi, Directorate of Legal & Public Affairs, IEBC. Voter registration officers were Paul Yego, Josephine Wagumba and Karu Wario, who have been registering voters in Bujumbura since 20th February 2017. Association of Kenyans in Burundi Chair also gave remarks. The Embassy was represented by Monica Nyamira who also gave remarks and thanked the IEBC for including Burundi in the Diaspora voting exercise.
