KENYA DELIVERS 50 HIGH YIELDING HEIFERS TO THE REPUBLIC OF BURUNDI
Cabinet Secretary, Hon. Peter Munya hands over the heifers to Hon. Dr. Rurema Deo-Guide, Minister for Environment, Agriculture & Livestock of the Republic of Burundi
On 3rd February, 2022, the Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Cooperatives of the Republic of Kenya, Hon. Peter Munya, led a Kenyan delegation of senior governed officials in delivering fifty (50) high yielding heifers to the Republic of Burundi. The 50 dairy cows donation to Burundi were pledged by H.E President Uhuru Kenyatta during the State Visit to Kenya by H.E President Evaristé Ndayishimiye in May 2021. Other donations delivered on this occasion included: 4,000 doses of semen for breeding, 1000 tsetse traps, 20,000 packets of UHT long life milk (500ml); 20,000 does of foot and Mouth vaccines, and 1ton of pasture seeds.
The donations are part of the programs under Capacity Building and Technical assistance for Burundians in line with the MOU between Kenya and Burundi on; Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, that was signed in Kisumu in May 2021 during the State Visit. These donations are meant to assist in the development and management of the Livestock and dairy sector of Burundi. The imitative is further complemented by full scholarship programmes offered by the Government of Kenya to 10 Burundi government officials, to undertake Diploma courses in the area of Livestock Development and Management.
During the Occasion Cabinet Secretary, Hon. Munya and his counterpart Hon. Dr. Rurema Deo-Guide, Minister for Environment, Agriculture & Livestock of the Republic of Burundi assessed the progress of the implementation of the MOU between Kenya and Burundi on; Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries. The two leaders noted that indeed the two countries had stayed the course on the implementation of the MOU noting that most of the priority areas highlighted in the MOU had been given the requisite attention by both countries. They urged the technical teams from both countries to remain seized on the matters to ensure prudent implementation of the MOU for the mutual benefit of the two countries.
