On 29th March, 2022, H.E. Ambassador Daniel Wambura, Kenya’s Ambassador to Burundi, paid a courtesy call to Hon. CP Jimmy Hatungimama, Mayor of the City of Bujumbura, Burundi. The two leaders lauded longstanding cordial relations between Kenya and Burundi and expressed the desire to consolidate these relations through continued cooperation is areas of mutual interest.
The leaders noted with appreciation the two countries’ longstanding-shared commitment to regional integration as exemplified by the two countries’ membership to the AU Peace and Security Council, and as Troop Contributing Countries (TCC) in advancing the course of peace in Somalia and the region under the auspices of AMISOM.
The Ambassador re-affirmed Kenya’s commitment to work with Burundi on strengthening cooperation in capacity building and technical assistance on the basis of signed instruments of cooperation in various fields of socio- economic development.
He further welcomed the lifting of the sanctions on Burundi by the European Union and other Development partners noting that, the move will give Burundi the chance for economic revival and sustainable development. He called upon Burundi to seize the opportunity to strengthen its Macro-economic policies that would incentivize investors from the region and worldwide.
