Rtd. President Uhuru Kenyatta, Facilitator for EAC-Led Nairobi Peace process in the Eastern DRC arrives in Bujumbura for high-level consultative meeting
On 4th November, 2022, H.E Rtd President Uhuru Kenyatta, Facilitator for EAC- led Nairobi Process, on restoration of peace and security in Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) held high-level consultations with H.E Evaristé Ndayishimiye, President of the Republic of Burundi and Chairman of the East Africa Community (EAC), on the ongoing inter-Congolese dialogue on the security situation in Eastern DRC, in Bujumbura Burundi.
The two leaders reviewed the progress in the implementation of the political and military tracks, set out to stabilize Eastern DRC. They further reviewed the recent developments in North Kivu, particularly the resurgence of violence by M23, which has undermined the gains that had been made, on negations with local groups.
The next session of the dialogue is expected to commence on 16th November 2022 in Nairobi Kenya. The meeting underscored the need to uphold the principle of inclusivity by enduring the participation of all stakeholders including traditional leaders.
