The objective of the meeting was to discuss the status update on the Implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between Kenya and Burundi on Bilateral Cooperation in the area of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries that was signed on 31st May, 2021 in Kisumu Kenya.
The meeting noted that indeed the two countries had stayed the course on the implementation of the MOU noting that most of the priority areas highlighted in the MOU had been given the requisite attention by both countries.
The two leaders noted that ten (10) Burundian officials are already undertaking Diploma courses in the area of Livestock Development and Management in Kenya on full scholarship programmes offered by the Government of Kenya. The courses are tenable at the Animal Health & Industry Training Institute (AHITI) and the Dairy Training Institute (DTI).
The meeting also recalled the exchange visits by Burundi and Kenyan technical teams in July and August, 2021, during which the delegates jointly deliberated and agreed on several issues regarding the MOU and Modalities of delivering the 50 high yielding heifers and other donations to Burundi.
The Ambassador informed the Minster that all logistical arrangements to deliver these donations are ready and Burundi is requested to prepare to receive them during the proposed forthcoming Official Visit led by Cabinet Secretary for Agriculture.
