H.E. President Dr. William Samoei Ruto CGH, inspects guard of Honour at the Melchior Ndadaye International Airport upon arrival in Burundi for the 20th Extra-Ordinary Summit of the EAC Heads of State.
On 4th February, 2023 H.E President Dr. William Samoei Ruto CGH; joined other East Africa Community Heads of State, their Excellencies: Evaristé Ndayishimiye, Chair of the Summit and President of Burundi; Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, President of Uganda; Paul Kagame, President of Rwanda; Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, President of Tanzania; Felix Tshisekedi Tshilombo, President of DRC; Hon. Deng Alor Kuol, Minister of East Africa Community Affairs, representing H.E President Salva Kiir Mayardit of South Sudan for the 20th Extra-Ordinary Summit of the EAC Heads of State, in Bujumbura to evaluate the current security situation in the Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
The Summit observed that the security situation in Eastern DRC is a regional matter that can only be sustainably resolved through a political process and emphasized the need for enhanced dialogue among all the parties.
The Heads of State directed that the political process should be strengthened and escalated to involve all stakeholders. The summit further reiterated its call to all parties to de-escalate tensions and to use established regional, continental and international mechanisms to resolve any disputes in the implementation of peace in Eastern DRC.
