The discussions focused on a range of issues, including preparations for the upcoming celebrations of Africa Day to be commemorated later this year. The Ambassadors exchanged views on the planned activities aimed at promoting African unity, solidarity, and the shared aspirations of the continent, while also highlighting the importance of strengthening collaboration among African missions accredited to Burundi.
Following the meeting, Ambassador Wambuma paid a courtesy call on H.E. Gelasius Gaspar Byakanwa, Ambassador of the United Republic of Tanzania to Burundi and Deputy Dean of the African Group of Ambassadors. During the meeting, the two leaders held cordial discussions on matters of mutual interest between Kenya and Tanzania, reaffirming the strong and longstanding relations between the two countries.
The discussions also touched on developments within the East African Community, where both leaders welcomed the ongoing reforms aimed at strengthening the regional bloc, enhancing institutional efficiency, and promoting deeper economic and political integration among member states. Ambassador Wambuma further sought Tanzania’s support for Kenya’s candidate, Phoebe Okowa, for re-election as Judge of the International Court of Justice for the 2027–2036 term. The elections are scheduled to take place in November 2026, and Ambassador Wambuma underscored Kenya’s commitment to strengthening Africa’s representation within key international judicial institutions.
