Amb. Daniel Wambura receives the Award on behalf of H.E President Uhuru Kenyatta from H.E. President Evaristé Ndayishiye
On 1st July 2022, during the 60th Independence Day Celebrations for Burundi held in Bujumbura, His Excellency President Evaristé Ndayisimiye conferred on His Excellency President Uhuru Kenyatta, the National Order of the Republic of Burundi in recognition of his outstanding role in promoting peace, security and stability in Burundi and the great lakes region as a whole. This is the highest honour of award conferred by the Head of State of Burundi to an individual. Ambassador Daniel Waisiko Wambura, Kenyan Ambassador to the Republic of Burundi received the award together with the accompanying medal on behalf of H.E President Uhuru Kenyatta.
In making this award, HE the President of Burundi cited the following among others:
The outstanding role that Kenya played in promoting peace, security and stability to Burundi during the political crisis in 2015.
The important role the Government of Kenya played to successfully campaign for the removal of Burundi from the UNSC watch list.
Kenya’s support and solidarity in successfully campaigning to have the sanctions imposed on Burundi by the European Union and other development partners lifted.
Arising from the above together with the bilateral technical support that Kenya has continued to give Burundi, the country has gained her political stability and it’s on a firm path towards economic recovery. Kenyan companies namely KCB and Kenya Airways have gained access to Burundian markets with great potential for bilateral trade and economic cooperation.
